Guide

Update the Lidub extension

Follow the illustrated steps. It takes about 2 minutes and you don't need to be a computer expert.

Coming soon to the Chrome Web Store. Then you only need to click Add to Chrome once; Chrome will keep Lidub updated automatically and you won't need the steps below.

Which version are you on?

Open Chrome, type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter. Find the Lidub card and read the Version line.

Same 0.6 line On 0.6.x, moving to a newer 0.6 Copy over the folder and press reload. Your settings and connection stay. Big upgrade On 0.5.x or older 0.6 is a new extension: remove the old one, install the new one, and reconnect your account.

Update within the 0.6 line

  1. 1Download the new build

    Go to the Get the extension page and click Download zip on the latest build.

  2. 2Unzip over the old folder

    Open the zip you downloaded and unzip it into the same Lidub folder you installed from before, choosing Replace all when asked.

    Don't remember where it is? On chrome://extensions, click Details on the Lidub card and look at Source.

  3. 3Click reload on the Lidub card

    Open chrome://extensions and on the Lidub card click the circular arrow ↻ (Reload).

  4. 4Check the version number

    The Version line on the Lidub card now shows the new number. Reopen your YouTube video (or reload the tab) and you're done.

Moving to 0.6 from 0.5 or older

0.6 has a new extension ID, so Chrome treats it as a different extension: your old settings (voice, speed) don't carry over and you need to connect your account again.

  1. 1Remove the old build

    Open chrome://extensions, click Remove on the old Lidub card, then confirm Remove.

  2. 2Download and unzip the new build

    Download the zip from the Get the extension page and unzip it into one permanent folder (for example Documents › Lidub). Do not delete this folder after installing.

  3. 3Turn on developer mode

    In the top right corner of chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode.

  4. 4Load unpacked

    Click Load unpacked and choose the folder from step 2 (the folder containing manifest.json).

  5. 5Reconnect your account

    Click the Lidub icon on the toolbar, choose Kết nối tài khoản Lidub (“Connect Lidub account”) and sign in with Google if asked. More on the Connect the extension page.

Something went wrong?

Chrome says “Manifest file is missing or unreadable”

You picked the wrong folder. Choose the inner folder that contains manifest.json, not the zip file or a parent folder.

Lidub turns itself off after restarting the computer

The installed folder was deleted or moved. Unzip again into a permanent place and install following the steps above.

There are two Lidub icons

You still have the old build. On chrome://extensions, remove the card with the lower version number. Keep only one Lidub at a time.

Updated, but no dubbing

Reload the YouTube tab. If the extension says it isn't connected, open Connect the extension and click Connect in the extension.
